BOOK COVER WITH TYPOGRAPHY

300 minutes each

Another challenging exercise. It’s hard because it doesn’t rely on images…

Create a series of 4 book covers that belong to the same narrative collection translated into your language. The format is 140 x 210 mm. You only have to work on the roof plan. Look for titles that motivate you and that challenge you to do them.

Covers must be typographic. The name of the author and the title must appear. They can be accompanied by some graphic element such as an ornamental background, a pattern, a motif, etc. but not a figurative image as the main piece. The covers must be distinguished by the texts, the types chosen and the way of placing them. The four types chosen should in each case reflect the spirit of the work. The publisher’s logo must also appear —an invented name—, also typographic but without an imagotype.

TYPOGRAPHY CONCEPT

120 minutes for all concepts

This was a difficult exercise for me. The description was as follows:

In a space of 30 x 30 cm, create a background in bleed that contains a texture, a photograph or simply a colored surface.

Compose a word or several that form a short sentence. Choose a typeface according to the message conveyed by that word or phrase. Work with a single font, without combining weights. You can modify the outline of the letter and even add a small change so that an action is produced, a text is generated, without directly representing a figure. A dot inside an “O” is a looking eye, for example.

Create something beautiful, ingenious, brilliant. Something you would put on your Instagram.

Even if I have ideas on how to make conceptual conections, I still lack the skill to show them on the screen. So in that sense it was important for me to work on something like this.
